This is a tromp l'oeil (fool the eye) style painting. One piece of notepaper contains the lyrics to Jessi Coulter's song "The Phoenix Also Rises", another a quote from Harry Potter, an ivory carved phoenix from Japan, a tea cup with a phoenix, and a baby phoenix rising from the ashes of a birthday candle (also from japan)
